A bit disturbing to think that we would be spied on for marketing purposes, but that is exactly what Microsoft (and who knows who else) is thinking.

MS just applied for a patent for delivering Advertising that is relevant to a person, described as:

A person is viewing a display. By evaluating tracked information about the person… The tracking system provides … instructions for generating the advertisement to a synthesis system local to the viewer (like TV, cell phone, TV, computer)…

A method for identifying a person who is currently viewing a display of a device; determining that an opportunity exists to present an advertisement that is relevant to said person in the …on and on….

Basically implying the installation or "insinuation" of a device that spies on us. Geez, if you didn’t think the Martians were reading your mind before….
