SanDisk Makes DAP That Makes You Go “Hmmm”

Posted on August 25, 2007 at 12:00 pm (PST)

At first, you’re probably thinking like I was. Sandisk Sansa Clip: okay, so, it’s cute, clippable, holds 1Gb or 2GB, nice little OLED screen, FM and voice recorder, and MP3 and WMA support. That’s all find and dandy, but DAP’s like this are a dime a dozen nowadays. Then you see the price, $40 for [...]

Toshiba Hasn’t Given Up on DAP Market - New Gigabeat U

Posted on August 17, 2007 at 11:20 am (PST)

It’s tiny, it’s cute, and it holds 2GB of songs. It also has an FM tuner and sneaks in 30 days of Yahoo Music, gratis. It does support a paltry list of formats: MP3, WAV, and WMA, doesn’t record voice (but does have line-in recording), has an itsy-bitsy screen, but hey–it’s tiny and cute. What [...]

Now Sirius Release New Radio - Stiletto 2

Posted on August 15, 2007 at 11:24 am (PST)

Okay, I’m going to go ahead and make the assumption that I’m behind the times, and that both XM and Sirius are designing radios that will work with both systems. Or, that when the merger’s complete, there will be only one system. Because they both continue to release new, competing radios. This one, the Stiletto [...]

Samsung Yepp YP-P2 Overcomes Goofy Name with Some Style

Posted on August 14, 2007 at 11:55 am (PST)

Samsung’s been making some nice things lately, but what’s with the naming? The Yepp (Yepp?!?) YP-P2 is a lovely critter, and quite svelte: only 100 X 52 X 9.2mm. That’s thinner than a runway model… (I’ll leave it at that). Specs:

Up to 8GB Flash storage
3-inch, 428 X 240 pixel touch-screen
Integrated speaker and mike
Integrated FM radio
Integrated [...]

Commodore: Not Just Computers Anymore

Posted on August 6, 2007 at 2:03 pm (PST)

Capitalizing on its return to (relative) fame, Commodore is expanding beyond computers with the Gravel C200 medial player. Beyond the strange name (Gravel?), it looks like a pretty mediocre device. First, it’s a little, well, not good looking, and has some unimpressive specs: 1.8 inch color screen, plays MP3, WAV, WMA, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, [...]

Thompson Makes World’s Easiest-to-Lose Player in the A1

Posted on August 6, 2007 at 11:54 am (PST)

I’m sure other vendors would argue with Thomson that the A1 is the world’s smallest media player, but they’ve definitely gone small at 3 inches and 87 grams. Still the unit has can play MP3, WMA, WAV, and AVI, has a 16:9 display, comes in 4GB and 8GB flavors, and even sports an FM tuner. [...]

Sony Announces Industry-Standard Walkman

Posted on July 23, 2007 at 12:10 pm (PST)

Sony has announced (release in Europe in August, in US, who knows?) the Network Walkman NWD-B100. Perhaps the most important aspect is the non-proprietary formats it now accepts (MP3 and WMA, of course). No more ATRAC to contend with, and since it supports mass storage mode, no more Sony software. No pricing available, but there [...]
