align="justify">While promoting Windows 7 improvements Steve Ballmer scorned the idea that smart phones could unseat PCs as the technology of choice for on-the-go consumers saying:

"Let’s face it, the Internet was designed for the PC. The Internet is not designed for the iPhone. That’s why they’ve got 75,000 applications, they’re all trying to make the Internet look decent on the iPhone."

Just a little correction. At the time Ballmer made this statement it was already well-known there are 85,000 apps. With the addition of new plugins for content management systems such as Wordpress that allow sites to be viewed easily with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and other high-end phones, the 230,391,343 blogs that exist at this moment can be viewed easily, and those blogs look great. With the new plugins blogs don’t even have to make a special mobile friendly site anymore.

Try viewing NerdGrind in your high-end phone and you’ll see how wrong Ballmer is.

What’s worse for Microsoft investors is that Microsoft develops the Windows Mobile OS for phones, so maybe he meant the Internet doesn’t look good on Windows Mobile phones.

With the explosive growth of the iPhone and iPod Touch Ballmer might want to stop ignoring that market.

© Copyright Companies love to do this during tech wars. It happens again and again. Remember when Sony announced that the Wii selling a bazillion copies was just PR nonsense? Or when the Zune was pronounced a success because it had units on the shelf and not in the hands of consumers? Well, it’s happened again.

Microsoft’s Robbie Bach gave an interview to <a

He seemed vaguely disinterested and chalked it up to "launch buzz." 6.9 million units, launch buzz? Well, whatever floats your boat Robbie:

"Apple had a big launch of a new product, and they launched at scale in a lot of new countries with a lot of new [wireless] operators. This quarter, RIM is having its big launch, and at some point we’ll have our big launch. We’ll have to see where things normalize."

At least he admits that Windows Mobile 7 won’t continue to be vaporware until the year 2450. Maybe only until 2049. And as far as those iPhone figures being simple launch hype, see the Zune for the exact opposite.

© Copyright Access, the owners of the Palm OS, are apparently porting the 3.5 version of the NetFront browser to Windows Mobile. NetFront is the basis of Palm’s Blazer browser, a perfectly workable way to get on the Web. It’s better than Pocket Internet Explorer, so WinMo users might want to consider the option. When are they going to come out with a 3D holographic projected browser? I’m still dreaming of it.

© Copyright <a
