Intel is making news with reports that they are testing a chip which can effortlessly swap between WiFi, WiMAX, and DVB-H.

City-Wide WiMax in Chicago

I for one, have heard enough of the "maybes" and "possibles" - I want to see a city-wide wireless network in place! I don;’t even care which city. Just get it done, people!
Yesterday, Sprint and Motorola did a live demo of Sprint’s Xohm-branded, mobile WiMax service on the Chicago River.

Hope for Ubiquitous Wireless Internet Access

Sprint and Clearwire have apparently hooked up to deliver WiMAX to a combined 300 million people (that’s just about all of us Americans, folks) over the next few years. 100 million should be frolicking wrecklessly with wireless connections by the end of 2008. Montreal Going WiMAX

Montreal is already set to become the "first Canadian city to deliver wireless Internet and mobile IP telephony to residents."
