Toshiba claims the world’s smallest "Full HD" camcorder with the A100F: a 1.8-inch 100GB disk with 1/3-inch CMOS sensor 2 megapixel stills or 1,920 x 1,080 recordings at 60fps with 16bit/48kHz Dolby digital stereo audio at a 384kbps bit rate. Add SDHC expansion, a big 3-inch LCD, 10x optical zoom, HDMI and component out, and USB linkup with your PC.

The gigashot K series features 720p video and 0.92 megapixel stills stored in a maximum 80GB disk.

The A100F starts shipping in mid November for $1,628.

AP and Reuters are reporting that Sony will be selling its chip production facilities to Toshiba for $865 million. This includes the chips for the PS3, might include image sensors, and is all in the air at this point.

Toshiba in a joint promotion with CBS Home Entertainment’s launch of "Star Trek: The Original Series," Season 1 has unveiled this "Star Trek" Combo which features HD DVD on one side of the disc and standard DVD on the other.

Purchasers of the boxed set and any Toshiba HD DVD player will be offered the limited edition "Star Trek" Phaser – a remote for Toshiba’s HD DVD players.

Toshiba has given us a peek at their ultrathin PC HD DVD burners: HD DVD-Writer and HD DVD Super-Multi for about $400.

The HD DVD-Writer supports CD, DVD+/-RW, HD DVD-ROM, and single and double-layer HD DVD-R formats. The HD DVD Super-Multi supports all of the above except HD DVD-R. Both units supposedly measure in at just 5.04- x 4.96- x 0.51-inches and weigh 5.82 ounces.

Toshiba didn’t want Samsung to get all the aclaim with its 1.8 inch 160GB HDD, so they went out and made a 320GB 2.5 inch drive. Yes, that would be the largest 2.5 inch drive, so essentially, Toshiba matched Samsung (short-lasting) record for record. What’s even niftier about the MK3252GSX drive is that, unlike its closest competitor, Fujitsu’s 300GB, it runs at 5400RPM rather than 4200RPM. Other specs include an 8MB buffer, 12ms average seek time, and a 3Gbps SATA interface. It’s also very thin, at only 9.5mm tall. No word on pricing, but they should start showing up in notebooks near you around November.
