blackberry tethering Why Tethering Is Stupid and Unnecessary

As a proud new owner of a Blackberry Bold, I’ve been weighing my options in terms of wireless access for my laptop. Mike Elgan, over at The Raw Feed, explains why tethering is stupid and unnecessary.

According to Mike:

"[Carriers] make customers suffer some indignity in order to coerce them to pay absurdly high rates for what they really want. That’s what tethering is: It’s the indignity carriers make you suffer in order to coerce you to pay astronomically high rates for a second data plan."

Unfortunately for me, there is no other option that makes more sense, so I’ll just have to suck it up and deal.

No iPhone Tethering Because AT&T Can’t Meet Demand

iphone tether No iPhone Tethering Because AT&T Cant Meet Demand

A reliable source inside AT&T has disclosed to MacBlogz, that AT&T has been putting off enabling tethering for the iphone due to fears that the company is unable to provide enough bandwidth.

AT&T, on the other hand, denies this claim saying that Apple hasn’t enabled the feature in their device. Tethering has been available on Blackberry phones but it isn’t until November 4th that Blackberry will release a phone with 3G.

I guess we will have to see how the network handles all the many users, like myself, that will be frantically trying to get their hands on the upcoming Blackberry Bold and tether it to their eee pc’s.
