Costco is selling two Sharp AQUOS 46" HDTVs together as a package deal for just $1999 with $99 shipping. That’s hundreds of dollars cheaper than Amazon or anything searchable on Pricegrabber.

The 1080p television features a 4ms response time and is just 3 3/4"thick. Thus far, reviews of the unit have been positive.

Sony PS3 firmware update details

Sony quietly(for them) unveiled a firmware update for their PS3 on October 15th. The update includes, among other things, several interesting additions for for cinéphiles out there. You can now enter your DivX VOD registration code to make using the king of codecs on your home television easier. The update also offers 50Hz video output, Mosquito noise reduction video enhancement and support for chroma unsampling. Check the link for more details.

Goodbye Grouper, Hello Crackle

Sony is shutting down its video-sharing site Grouper and relaunching it as Crackle. Despite just having bought the old Grouper for $65 mil, it got a lowly 4.3 million viewers a month.

Crackle will be a bit different with contests and the top-rated videos will be given funding, ranging from $2,000 to $20,000, for additional episodes and a chance to pitch feature film ideas to executives at Columbia Pictures, a Sony company. Animators can show off to Sony Pictures Television with a chance to turn their short video into feature-length Sony animated films.

Swarmcast Gives iTunes A Burst Of Speed

In an effort to increase the speed of which iTunes uses to download media, Swarmcast presents a new technology called the Autobahn Accelerator. This program uses multi-source streaming that is able to download songs and movies 10 times faster than iTunes can by itself. According to Justin Chapweske, Cheif Executive and founder of Swarmcast, this program is all an effort to "bring a cable or satellite television-type of experience to folks watching video over the Internet."

Chances are, your computer already has the technology necessary for you to have an enjoyable viewing experience. But in any case, if you require that extra burst of speed, this is how you get it.

AT&T Will Develop Anti-Piracy Measures

AT&T announced it will work with Hollywood studios to develop technology aimed at thwarting those nefarious souls who would use their broadband services to upload pirated content.Â Privacy advocates are up in arms, competitors will be watching closely.

Television Antennas Will Soon Be No More

In the year 2009, you might find that the bunny ears that was placed on (or in several cases, behind) the TV will be discarded and traded up for a new model. The new model, set in motion by the Federal Communications Commission, will be contained in a tiny converter box, that transfers digital-to-analog signals to the television. Due to the ever-evolving world of technology, it would only be expected that the method in which we receive the little images on the screen evolves as well. It’s only a wonder why it has taken so long.

The boxes will be available for about $80, and is determined to broadcast a much better image that would be available via analog.
