UWB Wireless Dock for R400 – Nice, Toshiba!

I’ve hanckered for a Toshiba R400 since it was released. It’s a nifty Tablet PC that’s also quite more attractive than my lowly M400. And now, Toshiba has to go and release an ultra-wideband docking station, complete with USB ports, audio out, Ethernet, and DVI. It’s a bit pricey at $500, but it makes me want to run out and buy one of both. If I had the money, of course.

HP 2710p Pricing Released, But No Release Date Yet

I have thing for Tablet PCs (although my wife stole mine and won’t give it back), and the HP 2710p looks like a good’n. Oh, sure, it has all the usual stuff, 12.1 inch screen, less than four pounds, ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo processor choices, etc., etc. But that 12.1 inch screen is no ordinary LCD. No, it has LED-backlighting along with its digitzer, promising to overcome one of the biggest weaknesses of Tablet PCs: dim screens. Pricing ranges from a bare-bones unit at $1,649 up to $2,478 for a fully-loaded monster. But, nobody knows when it’ll be released, so all this goodness is moot at the moment.

Fujitsu Lifebook U1010 Ultra Mobile PC – It’s so TINY!

Fujitsu continues to release small devices that are attractive to anyone with very good eyes and relatively small hands. The U1010 UMPC is no different. 800MHz Intel processor, 5.6 inch touch screen, up to 6 hours of battery life, Tablet PC functionality, 1GB of RAM, and 40GB HDD make this a decent enough performer. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi make it a good communicator. It’s only in Asia at the moment, but hopefully Fujitsu will ship it over.

Fujitsu T8140 Elicits Pavlovian Reaction in Tablet PC Lovers

This may never make it to the US, but if it does, Tablet PC users will certainly rejoice. Solid-state disk, 11-hour battery life (over 7 with the standard battery), just over 3 pounds, and Intel graphics that can run Vista Aero–those are heavenly stats that Tablet lovers dream about. Even I’m already salivating, and that’s at a conversion price of $2,650 that I most definitely could not afford.

The UBiQUiO 701 UMPC – It’s Everywhere!

Well, not really. At $1,000 for a moderately equipped and somewhat oddly configured UMPC, it’s likely not to be in many places at all. Odd spelling aside, the marketing folks have gone a little crazy here, I think.
Still, it’s a decent enough little device, with a 1GHz Via processor, 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, 512MB RAM, and a 40GB HDD. No keyboard, of course, as is the wont with the typical UMPC. USB ports bracket the somewhat clunky looking system, whose 7-inch screen with 800X480 resolution is pretty mainstream. It’s also relatively slow, and it doesn’t seem to use Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, rather bundling its own handwriting recognition on standard Windows XP.
That’s a huge strike against it. Remember, though, that many UMPC’s push $2,000, and so at half that price the ever-present, er, UBiQUiO 701 may fit the bill for many.
