Hope for Ubiquitous Wireless Internet Access

Sprint and Clearwire have apparently hooked up to deliver WiMAX to a combined 300 million people (that’s just about all of us Americans, folks) over the next few years. 100 million should be frolicking wrecklessly with wireless connections by the end of 2008. The deal is set for 20 years, with options for 10-year renewals. All the talk about lack of competition in high-speed Internet access seems a little silly now, as I’m sure the other telcos and cable companies will be scrambling. Of course, it all depends on the pricing, of which there’s as yet no sign.

Sprint’s Musiq Released

Sprint’s Muziq flip from LG launched today. It’s is a clamshell with dedicated music controls, A2DP Bluetooth stereo audio, 1.3 megapixel cam, and a 64MB MicroSD card (in the box) with expansion up to 4GB (yawn).

LG Muziq Revealed by Sprint

Gladly, Apple isn’t the only company planning to release a new phone. We’re all thankful to see that Sprint is about to ride the wave as well. Sprint teamed up with LG recently to create the Muziq, otherwise known as the LG 570. Features include a built-in FM transmitter, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a camcorder, stereo Bluetooth and a built-in MP3 player. The phone also sports bandwidth accessories and can access several media outlets such as Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store. While no iTunes or YouTube, this is sure to give the iPhone a run for its money.

Sprint’s New Smartphone PPC-6700

Either that, or they’re just implying that the replacement for the PPC-6700 will be a very important person. Or a popular feature on a ski slope.
Odd naming choice aside, this looks like an impressive bit of phone tech, preferable even to the phone-that-shall-not-be-named due to a (potentially) wider distribution, physical keyboard, and faster Internet connection. It’s not as pretty, but then, what is?
Other notable features include a 2.8" QVGA display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, a microSD slot, 64MB of RAM, 256MB of flash ROM, and a 2 megapixel camera. It won’t be cheap, though: Sprint’s selling the Windows Mobile 6 smartphone for $399.99 with a two-year contract.

Red, Red Phone

If red is your color, check out the new red version of the not-new Samsung UpStage. June 18th is the target date with pricing set at $99 on a two-year Sprint deal and $50 service credit.
