Novatel is offering up the new and smaller USB727 with an integrated microSD slot supporting cards up to 4GB for Sprint and Verizon customers.

Designed to work with any computing device equipped with Type A USB ports, including most desktops, notebooks, tablet PCs and PDAs, to provide instant on-the-go mobile broadband access. With out-of-box support for a variety of operating systems including Windows® (Vista, XP, 2000), Mac OS® X and Linux, the Ovation U727 enables users to surf the Web, check email and access important business documents with speeds similar to those of a cable or DSL connection.

"Mobile professionals and consumers alike want to make the most out of whatever equipment they carry and Sprint customers get maximum value from the Ovation U727 which delivers both high-speed access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and the ability to store and access documents and other critical information," said Danny Bowman, vice president of customer equipment for Sprint. "A smaller form factor, GPS locate-and-find capabilities and newly available support for the Linux platform truly help make this a next-generation connectivity device for our customers."

Verizon customers can buy this with a $100 rebate on a two-year contract.

City-Wide WiMax in Chicago

xohm chicago 440 City Wide WiMax in Chicago

I for one, have heard enough of the "maybes" and "possibles" – I want to see a city-wide wireless network in place! I don;’t even care which city. Just get it done, people!

Yesterday, Sprint and Motorola did a live demo of Sprint’s Xohm-branded, mobile WiMax service on the Chicago River.

Live video feed, even in full-screen mode, was very good and websites "loaded quickly and seemed very snappy" without any lag. The laptops used for the demonstration "all had massive PCMCIA cards" with 2x antenna while the Motorola handsets were all existing models stuffed with WiMax guts.

Here is the news we want – commercial launch is planned for April 2008 with pricing expected to match home DSL and no contracts! You do have to supply your own hardware and subscribe for as long as you like.

Verizon, Cingular, AT&T, Sprint, Motorola, and any other Cell Phone provider beware. The Google phone is coming out. I don’t know when, and I don’t know how they’re going to do it, but mark my words: It will be Spectacular!

From what I hear, service will be free. Hook, Line, Sinker. See you later other cell phone providers.
