Circuit City is Temporarily Delisted from NYSE

Circuit City received more bad news this week ,after having faced Sony stopping shipments to their stores, when the NYSE noted their stock was in danger of being delisted from the exchange. This happened because they have been averaging under $1 for the past thirty days. In a week or so, their ticker symbol (CC) will become marked by the inferior ".bc" indicator. The company then has ten business days to draft a plan to raise their average stock price above the minimum $1 within the next six months. If they do not succeed, they could be delisted for good.

Sony and Universal Team Up to Release Entertainment Vending Machines in UK

Sony and Universal have teamed up to produce series of "instant entertainment" vending machines in the UK. POP machines hit the country this holiday season. Unlike other kiosks that sell media players, this one sells the content as well. You will be able to download straight to a memory card, flash drive, PMP or other USB-supporting portable device. The machine will also let you purchase video games and media content on DVD and Blu-ray. Sony and Universal have not released word as to whether or not they plan on bringing the service anywhere else. Consider the UK a trial run.

Sony Patent Details Break-apart Motion Sensing Gamepad

Sony Computer Entertainment America recently filed for a patent detailing a break-apart DualShock 3 controller that recognizes 3D inputs. Rumors had been swirling since June that the company was working on something of this kind, to combat the success of the Wii and their infrared-enabled remote control. The patent dictates that the gamepad would consist of two connectable pieces that would each utilize an "ultrasonic tracking system." The controllers would link up to a game console or peripheral of some kind that has yet to be patented. The tech at play here also seems to differ significantly from the Wii so a lawsuit should not be a problem. Obviously, no word on a release date or even exactly what it is yet.

Sony Europe Makes PS2 Open Source System

Sony Europe has completely removed the costly PS2 certification process in their region. This move, in effect, makes the console open source worldwide. There are 131 million PS2s in the world, so this move must be exciting to some studios looking to make games on the cheap. Except to see an influx of software from Russia and India in the near future.

Sony Announces Lack of PS3 Price Cuts this Holiday Season

Sony’s UK boss has announced that their $399.99 80GB PlayStation 3 will avoid a price cut unti late 2009. Ray Maguire spoke at the Gamer 3.0 conference this week in London and denounced rumors of a price drop, saying that he "has a business to run" and shareholders to please. Maguire noted that the console would not be receiving a price drop this holiday season, stating that next year would be a safe bet for the reduction. Analysts indicate that this could be due to this being the first holiday season with Blu-Ray at the forefront of DVD technology.
