Toshiba may not be the first out of the gate with a 16GB microSDHC card, but they sure are the latest. Trailing behind SanDisk by only two months, Toshiba’s version will provide plenty of room for all of the things you hold dear in life. The Toshiba cards are slated for mass production in January of next year. A price range has not been set yet but expect something similar to the competition. Thank God. My hard drive was getting perilously close to filled.

Sandisk Announces 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro M2 Mobile Memory Cards

sandisk microsdhc m2 Sandisk Announces 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro M2 Mobile Memory Cards

Sandisk has announced the availability of its new 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2) mobile memory cards. Sandisk says the new memory is the largest available for mobile phones. Avi Greengart, Research Director for Mobile Devices at Current Analysis, said:

“Handsets have become far more than just phones, they’ve become mobile jukeboxes, mobile offices, even mobile movie theaters. Flash memory cards have increased in storage capacity, but even an 8GB card may be too small for anyone with GPS map data, a few movies, a game or two, a presentation file and other applications. There is an acute need for more mobile storage capacity. 16GB gives consumers the ability to carry their digital content with them and still have room to do more with their mobile phones.”

The 16GB microSDHC, MSRP of $99.99, and 16GB Memory Stick (M2) Micro, MSRP of $129.99, mobile memory cards are expected to be available at Best Buy Mobile stores and Verizon Wireless stores by October 2008.

SanDisk Ultra II SDHC cards Do USB

ultra ii 8gb sdhc plus card SanDisk Ultra II SDHC cards Do USB

SanDisk is cutting the cord with the forthcoming Ultra II SDHC cards, with capacities up to 8GB. The card folds in half, turning it into a USB drive, so you don’t have to tote a card reader around with you at all times.

They hit the shelves later this month for less than $100 for 8GB, and $80 for 4GB.

Sony probably won’t be able to give their memory sticks the same USB capability due to their design, and the way they fit into Sony devices. Too bad Sony didn’t plan ahead in this area.

SanDisk Makes DAP That Makes You Go “Hmmm”

sansa clip sandisk SanDisk Makes DAP That Makes You Go Hmmm

At first, you’re probably thinking like I was. Sandisk Sansa Clip: okay, so, it’s cute, clippable, holds 1Gb or 2GB, nice little OLED screen, FM and voice recorder, and MP3 and WMA support. That’s all find and dandy, but DAP’s like this are a dime a dozen nowadays. Then you see the price, $40 for 1GB and $60 for 2GB, and the picture comes into focus. Not a bad little player for that kind of money.
