New Orleans resident Ronald Richard was mowing his lawn when he felt something thump his chest hard. He took off his sweater and found that a .45-caliber slug had been fired at him. His trusty Motorola Razr had stopped it. The phone quite literally took a bullet for him.

According to paramedics, the angle of the bullet and the stopping power of the cellphone saved the man from serious injury or death. Richard managed to walk away with little more than a bruise and a newfound respect for his trusty little phone.

iphone razr Apple iPhone 3G Overtakes Motorola RAZR in Sales

According to a report from NPD, Apple’s iPhone 3G has overtaken Motorola’s RAZR in sales. This is the first time in years that Motorola’s ubiquitous RAZR has slipped from the top of the sales chart. This marks a sea change in the world of handsets, reflecting consumer’s desires for a complex, full-featured device. This news comes hot on the heels of reports that Apple has also overtaken RIM as the number two smartphone vendor in the world. Apple fans, rejoice.

Twice the screen resolution of the orignal Razor, Motorola’s Razor 2 not only gives better picture clarity, it will also add a new technology that will help with sound.  Called “Crystal Talk” technology, this Linux-based platform will adjust the volume of your phone to the ambient noise in the background.  No need to adjust it yourself Razor lovers.  Also, if you thought the phone couldn’t get any slimmer without foregoing a bunch of features, think again…it’s actually  2 mm slimmer than the orignal. Let’s hope there aren’t too many warranty exchanges on this one.

prism 1 The Nokia 7500 Prism

While America releases one of the most sought-after phone since the Razr, China debuts with its own nifty looking gadget phones. The 7500 Prism from Nokia sports a unique interface, with buttons laid out as if you were looking through an actual prism. The features are so far nothing out of the ordinary, including a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot and a QVGA screen.

While very promising, I think I’m a bit burned out as far as cellular phones go. Maybe in the next few months. the market will focus less on the phones and more on, oh I don’t know, a toaster that won’t burn my bread.
