Motorola Leaks Information on the QA30A – First QWERTY Slider by Company

Motorola is getting ready to add the QA30 to their Q-Series lineup. The phone comes with a sliding QWERTY keypad. However, it’s not necessarily not a smartphone. The specs aren’t going to wow anyone but they are adequate.

It features CDMA, 1x-EVDO connectivity, a 2.5-inch TFT, Full HTML browser, a 2 MP camera, Bluetooth and MicroSD card support up to 32GB. This seems like a fairly solid choice for those of you looking for a cheap QWERTY. Moto offers no word on when and how much, however.

Samsung Cleo Finally Launches – Canada Only

The Samsung Cleo has long been rumored for a release, but nobody could have predicted it’d be a Canadian exclusive. This fashion-conscious square flip phone includes a QWERTY keyboard, color LCD screen, 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 playback, and expandable memory up to 8GB. More importantly, the attractive 2.5-inch by 3-inch phone comes in a variety of colors, including champagne. The phone has officially been launched in Canada, but there is still no word on pricing.

Sprint Releases HTC Touch Pro Smartphone Online and at Sprint Stores

As promised, Sprint has made their HTC Touch Pro phone available for purchase online today. The base retail price of the QWERTY smartphone is $579.99, however consumers can redeem an "instant savings" of $180 combined with a $100 mail-in-rebate to bring the price down to $299.99. This, obviously, necessitates the usual two year contract. The phones are also available in person at Sprint stores.

Verizon’s New Lineup

Verizon is enticing us (at least me) with four sweet new phones: the Juke, Pearl, Venus, and Voyager.
The Samsung Juke "flick" phone has 2GB of built-in storage, A2DP (which shows up in all these phones) and a VGA camera.
Verizon’s BlackBerry Pearl comes with EV-DO and a 3.5mm minijack, and the VZ Navigator service..
The Venus slider has a dual screen setup, with contextual touch controls and a 2 megapixel sensor with a microSD slot for up to 8GB of expansion.
The Voyager (pictured) has everything from a touchscreen on the outside, and a second screen on the clamshell interior, facing a full QWERTY keyboard. Add V CAST Mobile T, a microSD slot and 2 megapixel camera.

All of these are supposed to be out by Thanksgiving, but no word on prices.

AT&T Tilt

AT&T Branded Tilt, the HTC Kaiser, the 8925 with MicrosoftÂ® Windows MobileÂ® 6 Pocket PC phone is the latest QWERTY-keyboard device from AT&T. It features a tilting 240 x 320 display, and usesHSDPA for high speed Internet access, BluetoothÂ® and Wi-FiÂ®. It also features assisted GPS (sat-nav), a 3 MegaPixel camera, Bluetooth and a microSD card expansion slot. Wireless cellular connectivity comes in the shape of UMTS and HSPDA, as well as GPRS and EDGE.

HP Pocket PCs

HP will be releasing two new pocket PCs back with the iPAQ 614c and 914c.

The smaller 614 has the conventional keypad with a ‘virtual wheel’ to replace the directional pad. Specs include: Windows Mobile 6 Professional, 12 keys + Navigation Circle, 2.8" QVGA display, 3G / HSDPA / WiFi, GPS, and a 3 Megapixel camera

The 914c sports a horizontal QVGA screen and the full QWERTY.

No word yet on availability or pricing.

Wibrain UMPC B1

Does usefulness trump image / design?

Wibrain has unveiled a product sample of its business UMPC B1(project name)™.

With a 4.8-inch touchscreen 1024×600 resolution LCD with a Via C7m CPU up to 1.6GHz, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, a 0.3M camera, HSDPA, and a full QWERTY keyboard and trackpad. User options include CPU (from 1GHz, 1.2GHz and 1.6GHz), memory (512MB and 1GB) and HDD (30GB, 60GB and 80GB).

Price will be 600 or 700k Korean Won (about $650 – $760 US)

Gotta Do Some Messaging on Your Xbox 360? Here You Go

I personally don’t see my Xbox 360 as a Messenger device, but if I did, I’d snap one of these up in an instant. It’s just as it appears: it clicks on the Xbox 360 controller and provides a QWERTY keyboard for texting (and, I imagine, other keyboard-centric functions). At $30, I might buy one just for the heck of it.

The ZANTE by Motorola

I never thought the Sidekick on T-Mobile was a great phone at all.Â I mean, sure it has all these useful applications that allow you to connect to the internet and instant message people.Â But, it just always looked ugly to me.Â Now, Motorola is making me think again about the Sidekick with the Zante.Â It looks like it belongs in nightclubs just so you can get emails and phone numbers from people…just don’t spill your drinks on it.

The Motorola Q900 (Zante) features full multimedia playback support, JAVA, game controllers, Danger OS, EDGE connectivity (via T-Mobile), 128MB of internal flash RAM, MiniSD card slot for 2GB, 5.9 hours of talk time. The phone also supports MP3, WAV, MIMI, AAC, AAC+ and WMA formats. The 2.4″ QVGA display boats of 65K TFT screen. It has a 1.3 MP camera and large 5-row QWERTY keyboard. Bluetooth, Push Email, SMS, MMS and IM are the other specs.

Pricing is about $269, a nice compromise to the iPhone.Â

The FlipStart: Finally, a Computer Built for Gnomes

Gnomes have long been a technology underclass, suffering from a complete absence of computer equipment designed for their freakishly small hands. Finally, though, the PC industry is taking note: enter the UMPC, in particular devices like the recently introduced FlipStart. The diminutive 5.6 inch screen, immeasurably tiny QWERTY keyboard, and itsy-bitsy trackpad are well-proportioned for gnome ergonomics.

"It’s about time!" said a spokesperson for the activist group Gnomes are Nerds Too (GANT). "We were getting sick and tired of lugging around computers twice our size, and ganging up to send a simple email. With the FlipStart, we’re finally empowered to enter the Web 2.0 world in comfort. It’s a little pricey, though. $1,999? Ouch!"

No word from the elves, however, for whom even the FlipStart is a little cumbersome. PC manufacturers will likely monitor gnome sales closely to see if such minute target segmentation is profitable before branching out to other humanoids.
