Sony Announces Lack of PS3 Price Cuts this Holiday Season

Sony’s UK boss has announced that their $399.99 80GB PlayStation 3 will avoid a price cut unti late 2009. Ray Maguire spoke at the Gamer 3.0 conference this week in London and denounced rumors of a price drop, saying that he "has a business to run" and shareholders to please. Maguire noted that the console would not be receiving a price drop this holiday season, stating that next year would be a safe bet for the reduction. Analysts indicate that this could be due to this being the first holiday season with Blu-Ray at the forefront of DVD technology.

Playstation Price Cuts

And another price reduction from Sony. This should teach us all to wait and not buy right away. But will we listen?
Granted, this is a rumor, but….the story is that Sony is planning a $400 40GB PS3 for the holiday season.
The story goes on to say that the price may drop soon to $500 for the 80GB version and that both will come bundled with a Blu-ray version of Spider-Man 3.
Hold onto your hats – er, wallets – the PS2 is supposed to be selling for $100! Now that’s news!

iPod Price Cuts

The 5.5G iPods are selling a bit below Apple Store’s prices lately. You can get the 30GB or 80GB iPod (with video) for about $20 off at Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, and J&R.
Speculation abounds of course, with a hint at August 7th – the repudiated date for a new iMac and/or iLife to emerge.
So, perhaps these online retailers are selling off existing stock to make room for….?

It’s For Real

The X-Box price cut, that is. Here is sneak peek at Circuit City’s flyer that says you can expect the deal on/about August 12th – this year!
The Cuts: $50 off the Xbox 360, selling for $350. The Elite will be $450, and the Xbox 360 Core will be $280.
