They tracked over 15,000 handsets over their first year of use, and denoted discrepancies in reliability. The iPhone malfunctioned 5.6% of the time. The Blackberry (various incarnations) malfunctioned 11.9% of the time. The Palm Treo took the cake by malfunctioning a whopping 16.2% of the time. The company compiled some handy charts on the matter, which are located above and below this writing.

It looks like it’s the end of the road for Palm. Analysts are not very optimistic about the future of Palm, citing that the company’s cash burn rate is through the roof and out of control due to setbacks.

Palm is the creator of perhaps my favorite smartphone ever, the Palm Treo 650. Unfortunately the people at Palm have no idea how to run a company because the company has split then reacquired itself numerous times instead of making any type of new innovation in their phones in the last 5 years.

Hopefully they can get their act together and continue to make history assuming they can launch Palm OS 2 without any further delays.

© Copyright <a

There is no official page for the phone, which is currently available only in Europe. However, it was spotted in a product drop-down menu. If you are holding out for the stateside release before you upgrade your Sprint contract, note that the similar 800W model is available now. The Pro is just slightly thinner with a nicer battery.

© Copyright <a

It has some pretty neat features though: a pen-style cellular phone with a handwriting data input function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector, camera scanner, and personal ID key with cashless pass function.
<p

The whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. This personal gadget in a minimalistic pen style "enables the ultimate ubiquitous computing".

Personally, I wouldn’t buy it, but what i think has real promise is the keyboard, although my fingers would get super tough from typing on the hard floor or table all day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Fingers of steel? I’ll take it!

Until next time…

© Copyright <a

The iPhone will go on sale at 6 PM in your time zone on June 29. Since the iPhone is brand new, the initial purchases will be the real beta testers. Remember the dead battery in the first iPods that couldn’t be replaced? Still, as soon as the initial bugs have been worked out I’m getting an iPhone.

© Copyright <a

It is a 10-inch wide, Linux-based device that connects wirelessly to your Treo Smartphone and functions similar to that of a large screen and keyboard. While this could mean that the Mobile Companion is none other than an old-fashioned laptop, bear in mind, laptops are much bigger and heavier and don’t connect automatically to your phone. The Foleo contains Bluetooth technology and can be used for working on email or Microsoft documents when the Treo thumb pad proves cumbersome.

This product will be available in the summer at the retail price of $499, after a $100 mail-in rebate.

*Disclaimer: Photo courtesy of Amazon.com*

© Copyright <a
