NVIDIA Releases Quadro FX 5800 Graphics Card – Says It Is Best in Industry

NVIDIA has released their long rumored Quadro FX 5800 graphics card for consumers. This monstrosity was previously seen in NVIDIA’S Quadro Plex D data cruncher. It replaces the 5600 at the top of the NVIDIA food chain. The FX 5800 contains 240 CUDA-programmable cores and sets a new standard with 4GB of graphics memory. The only drawback? The suggested retail price is $3,499. Good graphics do not come cheap.

Psystar Beats Apple by Releasing Blu-Ray Enabled Mac Clones

Psystar announced today that they are ready to ship a Mac clone with built-in Blu-ray and NVIDIA 9800GT graphics cards. This comes as a surprise given that the company is currently in closed-door talks with Apple to negotiate an end to their cloning ways.

Steve Jobs has thus far resisted inclusion of Blu-ray technology into Macs because of steep licensing costs, a problem Psystar apparantly had little issue with. No pricing model has been announced yet but expect them to be fairly inexpensive. Psystar announced today that they are ready to ship an Mac clone with built-in Blu-ray and NVIDIA 9800GT graphics card.

AppleInsider says the humble iMac is about to get zoomier. Apple should be sending the new iteration to store shelves sometime in the next four weeks. The exterior will be unaffected, however. As if anyone would mess with that lovely frame. Just look at it!

Here is what to expect: Faster processors that could go all the way up to quad-core, a new chipset, a complete move to discrete Nvidia graphics and a Mini DisPlayPort. Let’s camp outside of the Apple Store now. I’ll bring the granola bars.

Dell releases the Precision M6400 Covet mobile workstation

The name says it all. "Precision" because of the clean lines and the ease in which you can finish your work. "Covet" because, well, other people will want it. "Mobile workstation" because it is one, and "M6400" because it just about costs $6,400.

Not quite. The unit will actually set you back $3,859. Sound pricey? It is, but check out what’s under the hood:

This nifty doodad comes packing a 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo T940 CPU, Vista Business, a dual-layer DVD writer, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 160GB 7,200 RPM hard drive, NVIDIA’s 1GB Quadro FX 3700M GPU, a 2-megapixel webcam, WiFi, 9-cell battery and a 17-inch WUXGA LED-backlit display. Yowza. Optional features include SSD, WWAN, a Core 2 Quad CPU and 16GB of RAM.

ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Wins

It seems that everyone loves the Nvidia GeForce 8800GT and it is touted as the the best performing midrange graphics card on the market. HotHardware loves the Radeon HD 3870 and states the the HD 3850 is "quite strong" when compared against mid-range cards like the Radeon 2600 XT and GeoForce 8600 GTS. Then Custom PC says that the 3850 "blows both of these cards away." Lots of good stuff here. Happy shopping.

XtremeNotebooks Xtreme 917X – Doin’ the Quad-Core

I just love power, especially when packaged in mobile forms.That goes for cars, motorcycles, and, of course, notebooks. The XtremeNotebook Xtreme 917V (wihch is a bit to type) provides some serious power for a low, low starting price of $2,399. The specs:

Up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM

Asas U3 Rocks the Casbah

Eurocom D900C Phantom-X: Ultimate PC (for now)?

Let’s face it: if you could get everything you need in a notebook, then the desktop computer becomes–as it should–obsolete. Eurocom has come pretty darn close, I think, with the DC900C Phantom-X, which sports some crazy specifications. Let’s just list them out, shall we?

Intel Quad-core processors
Up to 750GB HDD space
Up to 4GB of RAM
Blu-Ray optical drive
nVidia GPU options, both singular or dual SLI
All the ports one would expect
Both optical and analog audio in and out
All meaningful wireless options (except 802.11n, oddly)
Optional TV tuner

The video can be upgraded, as well. Perhaps the only drawback for those looking for a true desktop replacement is the 17" widescreen. And for those wondering, pricing starts at $2,999 for the base model. So start saving those pennies.

Toshiba Offers HD DVD-R in Qosmio G45-AV680

Okay, some things are just extravagant, you know? Almost embarassingly so. Consider the specs on the new Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV680: HD DVD-R3 drive, USB HD tuner, Santa Rosa Intel PM965 chipset, Core 2 Duo T7300, 2GB RAM, Â nVidia GForce 8600 GT 512MB, dual 160GB HDD, all current and future wireless standards, webcam, Harmon Kardon 4-speaker system with subwoofer,Â and obligatory fingerprint reader. Whew! It’ll cost you: $3,199, but if you’re in the market for the notebook that has everything (except SSD, I do notice), the Qosmio might be your cup of tea.
