If you linger and yearn for one of these displays (like I do), here is NEC’s latest – the 24-inch LCD2470WVX with 1920 x 1200 resolution, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a 5 ms response time, and a 400cd/m2 brightness rating. NEC adds Ambix dual analog and digital input technology, as well as its NaViSet software, and you can tweak this baby to your heart’s content.

NEC LaVie Laptops Keep Their Eye On You

My dog can recognize my face, and so one might be tempted to think that NEC’s LaVie notebooks, with their "face pass" feature, is no big deal. But come on, this is a computer–recognizing your face using the 2 megapixel Webcam and using it as a password is a pretty robust feature. Otherwise, the specs are pretty typical: Core 2 Duo or Celeron, depending on model, 15.4 inch displays, and optional Blu-ray drive. Prices range from the low-end LaVie L at $1,300 to the LaVie C at over $2,500.

We want better cameras in our phones! Hearing those cash registers and plastic rustling, Kodak announced a five-megapixel model to come, and now NEC is already shipping samples of a "system chip capable of processing cameraphone images at resolutions of up to 8 megapixels," which even includes "image stabilization circuitry as an option."

I love it when those R&D departments are scrambling.

Rock Hard ….Fingers?

P-ISM : A Pen-style Personal Networking Gadget Package, basically its a Palm Pilot in a pen. It has some pretty neat features though: a pen-style cellular phone with a handwriting data input function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector, camera scanner, and personal ID key with cashless pass function.

The best part of them all is that they are all connected with one another through short-range wireless technology. The whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. This personal gadget in a minimalistic pen style "enables the ultimate ubiquitous computing".

Personally, I wouldn’t buy it, but what i think has real promise is the keyboard, although my fingers would get super tough from typing on the hard floor or table all day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Fingers of steel? I’ll take it!

Swarmcast Gives iTunes A Burst Of Speed

Yes, faithful viewers, more Apple news!

In an effort to increase the speed of which iTunes uses to download media, Swarmcast presents a new technology called the Autobahn Accelerator. This program uses multi-source streaming that is able to download songs and movies 10 times faster than iTunes can by itself. According to Justin Chapweske, Cheif Executive and founder of Swarmcast, this program is all an effort to "bring a cable or satellite television-type of experience to folks watching video over the Internet."

Chances are, your computer already has the technology necessary for you to have an enjoyable viewing experience. But in any case, if you require that extra burst of speed, this is how you get it.

Sprint’s New Smartphone PPC-6700

Either that, or they’re just implying that the replacement for the PPC-6700 will be a very important person. Or a popular feature on a ski slope.

Odd naming choice aside, this looks like an impressive bit of phone tech, preferable even to the phone-that-shall-not-be-named due to a (potentially) wider distribution, physical keyboard, and faster Internet connection. It’s not as pretty, but then, what is?

Other notable features include a 2.8" QVGA display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, a microSD slot, 64MB of RAM, 256MB of flash ROM, and a 2 megapixel camera. It won’t be cheap, though: Sprint’s selling the Windows Mobile 6 smartphone for $399.99 with a two-year contract.

Kodak Chip May Eliminate Flash

Kodak has developed an advancement in digital imaging technology that may make flashes on digital cameras a thing of the past.Â This new chip design will allow cameras to capture images with less light, and will also make pictures of moving objects less blurry.Â The way current imaging chips work is with an arrangement of red, green, and blue pixels that each capture their respective color of light.Â Â The colors are then combined together to form an image.Â The new design adds "clear" pixels to the arrangement, which pick up a greater proportion of visible light.Â This might sound complicated, but all you really need to know is that the new chips will be more sensitive to light, and therefore better at taking pictures when it’s dark.Â We probably won’t see these new chips in any consumer devices until early next year at the earliest.Â Judging from this picture here, Kodak will likely spend the next few months figuring out how to manufacturer their new chip at sizes smaller than a woman’s face.

Battery life is said to be 6 hours, 72 hours on standby. Available now in Japan for an expected Â¥15,900 or $130.

USB ports getting hotter?

As I was drinking my coffee this morning I experienced a funny sensation. The coffee I was drinking slowly but surely started to cool off. Cooler and cooler it got until (gasp!) it was disgustingly cold. Then it hit me! I’ll invent something that allows me to both type on my computer (the reason why I was sipping my coffee ever so slowly) and drink piping hot coffee at the same time. Alas, as I got done putting the finishing touches on,Â it came to my attention that someone else had already invented it. Drats.

It’s a hot plate made to plug into your USB port of your computerÂ and it keeps your coffee drink warmer for longer. It also acts as a 4-port USB hub, so you don’t have to disconnect anything vital to plug it in.

Cool huh? Although someone though of my brilliant idea I have another to counter it. A coffee stain resistant computer! What do you think?
