microsoftmilan Microsoft announces the Surface will be more expensive than previously noted

Microsoft has announced that it’s Surface Multi-touch computer will be considerately more expensive than previously thought. An earlier press release listed the computer with a $10,000 retail tag, however that figure will end up closer to $13,500. That steep price even takes into account a 10 percent discount.

Microsoft Surface is a Multi-touch product from Microsoft. The computer was developed as a software and hardware combination that allows a user to manipulate digital content by way of natural motion, hand gestures, or physical objects. The official release date is early 2010.

A Microsoft research project called Sidesight will eventually allow user input to mobile devices without actually touching the device. The use of proximity sensors around the perimeter of the device will allow the user to use multi-touch gestures to manipulate devices. I really think this is the future. smart table SMART is Microsoft Surface for Classrooms

SMART Technologies is about to announce the SMART Table, a Microsoft Surface-like device for the classroom. The company is aiming to put these in classrooms all over the nation for a measly $8000. According to the company:

"The SMART Table is a versatile learning center where groups of students can create, explore and discover together on the durable screen."

The device isn’t available yet, but I think the problem is not the device, it’s the technologically challenged teachers.

microsoft surface Microsoft May Sell Surface for Consumers

A Microsoft market research survey suggests that the company might be looking into selling Surface devices aimed at consumers. The device, code named "Oahu," would be a consumer version of the advanced multi-touch computer that until now has only been used by companies like AT&T for in-store promotions. It looks like Microsoft is looking to start furnishing your house.

"Oahu can come as a freestanding table, placed into a piece of furniture, or built into a countertop. The type of Oahu devices we are asking about today are not portable but if they are furniture or tables, they can be placed anywhere in your home."

The survey suggests a $1,499 price tag for Oahu.
