EA to Lay Off 600 Employees Resulting in Six Percent Reduction in Workforce

Popular video game maker EA has announced that it will be laying off 600 people in the coming months. This will reduce their workforce by approximately six percent. The company has remained profitable throughout the economic downturn and the move is being seen as a precautionary measure. No word on which divisions will be hit heaviest, however it’s a safe bet that it won’t be team Madden.

Mac To Expect New Games
Electronic Arts (EA) and Apple have big plans for the future. An announcement was made at the Worldwide Developers Conference, bringing to the light that EA will focus on bringing big-named games to Macintosh computers. This is an effort on both groups to establish that, yes, Macs can be taken seriously as a video game outlet.
The list of future games includes Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Need for Speed: Carbon and Battlefield 2142. Later on, sports games will be added, including Madden NFL ‘08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘08.
As a dedicated Mac user, I am very excited about this news. Here’s hoping for a good run at the end of the year!
