“Manhunt 2″ Banned By The BBFC

The adult-rated video game, "Manhunt 2" for PS2, PSP and Wii, has been banned in Britain for "sadistic violence." This decision was made by the British Board of Film Classification, who also had issues with the Grand Theft Auto series. The game will be therefore illegal if supplied anywhere in Britain. Unsurprisingly, this decision prompted one American family to campaign for the ban in America, as well, although no officially moves have been made.

Attacks on PS3

Hackers have pierced Sony’s PS3 anti-piracy defenses by cracking 1.10 and 1.11 firmwares enabling the console to boot illegal game copies.
Granted, they were not able to play, but Sony is taking this very seriously.
"Unfortunately, hackers will try to exploit any hardware system software," SCEA spokesperson Dave Karraker told GamesIndustry.biz.
"The best we can do as a company is to make our security that much stronger and aggressively pursue legal action against anyone caught trying to use an exploit in an illegal manner."
The neverending battle continues…

Google Street View: Cool or Creepy?

Now we can stalk perfect strangers, not just facebook friends! If you’ve google mapped anything lately you may have noticed a new feature on the webpage known as “Street Viewâ€. It’s a function that lets people actually see a 360 degree high-res view as if they were standing at that location. The option is currently limited to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, Miami, and New York but it already appears to be brewing up quite a bit of controversy.
Some ‘street views’ show a man picking his nose, others of people entering strip clubs, college students sunbathing, going about their daily routines. Many say that this pushes the boundaries of privacy. Others argue that negative images, such as the one of protesters outside an abortion clinic in Florida, may create safety issues for the general public.
Google has already instated measures that allow people to request the removal of an image. But is that too little? Where will they draw the line between what is legal to do and what is right to do? In the meantime while they figure it out, I’m looking forward to taking a photo tour of NYC.

Another Sony Battery Catches Fire in a Laptop

Who’s ready for another round of exploding laptop batteries? I’m sure everyone remembers that whole scandal last year where Sony laptop batteries were exploding left and right, leading to recalls and plenty of awkward moments for Sony. Well reports out of Japan suggest that one of the Sony batteries part of the Toshiba’s recall program caught fire back in April. Allegedly this incident isn’t related to the previous battery fires, but instead was caused by some other manufacturing oddity. Still, I bet neither Sony nor Toshiba especially want to be associated with these types of stories anymore.
