Moon May Take On Proper Role in Lighting Our Streets

For centuries now, the Moon has complained–to deaf ears, until now–that it could be providing all the street light we need, most of the time. No need for gas or electric streetlights, no sir, not unless there were clouds and such. Finally, someone’s listened, and developed Lunar-Resonant Streetlights, which use LED lamps that adjust lighting as necessary based on the available moonlight. Energy savings would be significant, up to 95%. We’ll just have to se if/when they move beyond he conceptual stage. Hang tight, Moon, your day will come soon!

Hold the Sun in Your Hands

2000 Lumens. Check. 20 lithium batteries. Check. Battery life of 1.5 hours. Check. Pricetag of $7000. Check. if you need to shine a light equivalent to 130 "normal" flashlights, then the Surefire Beast II LED is for you. I’m trying to think of an application for this monster, and I’m failing. But I’m sure there’s someone out there who needs more light than I do.

Will LED “Flourescents” Flicker? That’s the Question

Okay, so, the EVERLED LED replacements for fluorescent lights will last twice as long or so (10 years vs. 5-7 years), use 20% less power, and be build from less, shall we say, caustic materials. They’ll be $150, which is quite a bit more than the typical fluorescent light, and I’m in no mood to figure out whether that would pay for itself over any reasonable amount of time. But, the real question is: would they flicker? If not, then that’s enough justification for me.

This LED Alarm Clock Just Wasn’t Meant to Be

Somewhere, some designer’s Karma just took a turn for the worse when he designed this LED alarm clock that can be arranged in any order. I mean, clocks are the definition of "order," and so making their display optional just violates so many of the Universe’s most important rules that I’m even afriad to write this sentence. Available from Suck UK for $150, if you’re so inclined, you nihilist!

Speaker/Lamp Hybrid Confuses Model – and the Rest of Us

See the look on the model’s face? That’s either confusion, or someone’s making a rude gesture just off-picture. I’d be confused, too, though, at Sony’s "Hana" speaker/lamp/MP3 combo concept thing. It’s an MP3 player that supplies the tunes and pumps them out loud, all the while providing some nice (soft?) LED lighting to keep the mood just right. There’s just something about this that makes me think of products looking desperately for markets. That, or it’s the look on the model’s face. Either way.
