
Panasonic Buys Sanyo Making it Biggest Electronics Company in Japan

It’s Official. After much speculation, Panasonic has bought up rival Sanyo to make it the biggest electronics company in Japan. Nikkei is reporting the companies have come to an agreement and the sale should be completed by April of next year. The end result will be a mega-corporation with revenues of over ¥11.2 trillion (around $1.1 billion.)
Panasonic promises Sanyo will not be disappearing as a brand and that most of their employees will remain intact.

Nintendo Releases DSi in Japan – Notes Summer 2009 Release in America

Nintendo has narrowed the stateside release of it’s DSi handheld to summer of 2009, according to company president Satoru Iwata. Meanwhile, the unit sees release in Japan tomorrow. It will be priced at about ¥18,900 or $192. Nintendo has already shipped 200,000 of the slim, dual-cam handheld device with another 100,000 to follow next week.

TV Streaming on the iPhone

Softbank Mobile announced the mid-December release of a TV streamer for the iPhone. Unfortunately this is only available in Japan. The device is interesting in the way in works. The tuner receives TV signals then streams the signals to the iPhone over Wifi. In addition, it also doubles as an external battery when connected via the dock connecter. With one full battery charged it can receive and transmit video continuously for 3 hours.
The tuner has a suggested price of $100.


Casio 8.1 Megapixel W63CA – 480 x 800 Pixel OLED – Only in Japan

November will see the release of the Casio 8.1 megapixel W63CA Exilim cellphone in Japan. The flip-top super-phone features a 480 x 800, 3.1-inch OLED display. Yeah, that’s right. 384,000 pixels on a display that tiny. The phone’s camera features a wide-angle lens, 9-point auto focus, face detection, anti-shake and a video mode that records VGA video at 30fps. Everything saves on to your standard microSD card. The phone comes in several colors, shown below, and no firm price has been announced yet.


Current TV Releases Trailer for Upcoming Documentary on Robots

Internet/Cable channel Current TV has released a trailer for it’s upcoming documentary "Japan: Robot Nation." The trailer is certainly intriguing, tying the evolution of robots to the evolution of Japanese culture. It also has some pretty nifty music. The program doesn’t air until December 10 at 10PM EST on Current TV. Set your DVRs now. Click below to play the trailer.
