The British Advertising Standards Authority has banned another Apple iPhone ad. This one apparently fibs regarding the speed of the device, which you can see below. Britain claims it is a misleading ad. Watch it and see for yourself:

Apple iPod Touch Gets Google Street View Hack – Runs Game Faster Than iPhone 3G

The iPod Touch can finally join its brother, the iPhone 3G, in offering Google Street View. You’ll have to jailbreak your Touch in order to use it, however. Click here for step by step instructions so you can creepily eye the house your ex-girlfriend used to live at. Apple offers no word on when and if the iPod Touch will receive a legitimate use of Google Street View. It probably won’t be long considering the recent iPhone firmware 2.2 upgrade featured legit functionality.

Also, the video below highlights another coup for the iPod Touch. The 2G Touch is pitted against an original Touch, an original iPhone and a 3G iPhone in a game of TouchSport Tennis. It handily beats all three in load times. Not bad, little guy.

QuickPwn and PwnageTool Already Updated to Support iPhone Firmware 2.2

Both QuickPwn and PwnageTool have been updated to support the recent iPhone 2.2 firmware upgrade. They sure do work at breakneck speeds to allow you to jailbreak your beloved iPhones. The firmware upgrade was just released less than 72 hours ago. Color me impressed.

Below is a video of what sounds like an 8-year old kid showing us how to install the programs into the new firmware upgrade. Kids learn just as fast as hackers these days.

Rumor – iPhone OS 2.2 Update Coming November 21st

Rumor has it that the iPhone OS 2.2 update will be dropping on November 21st. This is according to iPhone Hellas, who tend to be pretty accurate on these types of things. The update will feature fixes such as walking directiosn, public transit route info and podcast downloading over-the-air. The addition of "copy and paste" remains much desired in the iPhone community but there is still no information regarding the inclusion of basic feature.

T-minus 10 days for the release. We all know what iPhone users will be giving thanks for this upcoming Turkey day.

Apple iPhone 3G Overtakes Motorola RAZR in Sales

According to a report from NPD, Apple’s iPhone 3G has overtaken Motorola’s RAZR in sales. This is the first time in years that Motorola’s ubiquitous RAZR has slipped from the top of the sales chart. This marks a sea change in the world of handsets, reflecting consumer’s desires for a complex, full-featured device. This news comes hot on the heels of reports that Apple has also overtaken RIM as the number two smartphone vendor in the world. Apple fans, rejoice.

Apple Bests RIM and Becomes #2 Smartphone Seller in World

The iPhone has allowed smartphone upstart Apple to attain second place in the worldwide sales wars. Sales reports note that the company recently jumped ahead of RIM (Research in Motion) with a 17.3% share of the market. RIM lands squarely at a 15.2% market share. Of course, neither company even gets close to Nokia’s massive 38.9% market share.

These numbers have a lot to do with the successful launch of the iPhone 3G, which has sold nearly 7 million units since it’s July 11 launch. Apple’s share of the entire cell phone market is now a respectable 2.3%.

Hackers Mod an External Keyboard for iPhone 3G

As a former owner of an iPhone, I do recognize it as a beautiful and elegant device but with LOTS of limitations. For me personally, I don’t really "dig" the touchscreen keyboard. Sure it works OK, but you will never be as fast with a virtual keyboard than a physical keyboard. But hackers have figured out a way to accomplish what Steve Jobs and Apple have failed to produce, an external keyboard for the iPhone.

By jailbreaking a 3G iPhone and installing some Ruby code, the iPhone will begin to recognize an old Palm external keyboard. This is perhaps what I miss most of the Palm Treo, all the "extras" available for it.

I don’t understand why Apple won’t produce an external bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone to simply please the masses who hate typing on a virtual keyboard. Am I alone in this?

A 99-cent iPhone application named Magic Tap, will be a "must have" for anyone that has ever been on a bad date. The program lets you send fake calls to yourself in case you ever need to be "saved" from a dreadful situation. No more relying on your unreliable friends.

The application let’s you customize the caller’s name, number and photo for the sake of realism. I guess now I can tell all my friends that I’m dating Scarlett Johannson!

FastMac iV Purports to Triple Battery Life of iPhone 3G

FastMac has finally unveiled their second generation iV battery pack for the iPhone 3G. The unit promises to deliver almost twenty-four hours of talking time, 31 days of standby, over twenty hours of video and about seventy-two hours of audio playback time. This could potentially triple or quadruple available power, depending on your settings. It also features a built-in LED flashlight and a second USB port so you can charge secondary gadgets as your main squeeze gets juiced. The new battery pack is out now and priced competitively at $80.

Garmin Reaffirms First Half 2009 Shipment for their Nuvifone

Garmin stated today that their Nuvifone would not be delayed, and would still make their first half of 2009 projected shipping date. The phone was unveiled just over a year ago, and though it initially turned heads, it remains to be seen if it can compete with the G1, iPhone 3G and others. The price was announced at around $500 last year. There has been no word if that would be lowered upon launch.
