I won’t pretend to understand what any of this means, but it appears that Nanosys has come across a new way to make the crystals used to manufacture flash memory more uniform, thus allowing more to fit within the same space. That means, of course, more memory, which is always a good thing. Intel and Micron may be considering using the technique by 2009.

dellxps Dells Smokin!

Looks like Dell overestimated how many way-overclockable Intel QX6800 Extreme processors it could get its hands one, and is therefore dropping its "Bin+3" version of the XPS 720H2C. Instead of overclocking from 2.93GHz to a (truly) blistering 3.73GHz, they’ll limit things to 3.46GHz. Hardcore gamers are likely a little bummed, but no impact on the typical user is anticipated. Microsoft Word will still write your novel faster than you can think of it.

Fujitsu continues to release small devices that are attractive to anyone with very good eyes and relatively small hands. The U1010 UMPC is no different. 800MHz Intel processor, 5.6 inch touch screen, up to 6 hours of battery life, Tablet PC functionality, 1GB of RAM, and 40GB HDD make this a decent enough performer. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi make it a good communicator. It’s only in Asia at the moment, but hopefully Fujitsu will ship it over.

This may never make it to the US, but if it does, Tablet PC users will certainly rejoice. Solid-state disk, 11-hour battery life (over 7 with the standard battery), just over 3 pounds, and Intel graphics that can run Vista Aero–those are heavenly stats that Tablet lovers dream about. Even I’m already salivating, and that’s at a conversion price of $2,650 that I most definitely could not afford.
