Down with the Cell Towers!

Share  submit to reddit

I thought I’d share something funny, especially when it has to deal with cell phones and unreliable service.  This guy over in Australia, yeah the land down under, so don’t blame any of our service providers (even though they should watch their back) for him snapping.  He totally went commando and drove a tank through six cell phone towers and was arrested while heading for his seventh one.  Many of you wish you could just give it to the cell phone companies huh?

I thought it was good enough for a nerdfind.

Our Robotic Overlords Will Know Our Moods

face rec Our Robotic Overlords Will Know Our Moods

The singularity is near. Two Dutch researchers, Theo Gevers and Nicu Sebe, have developed a face recognition system that determine’s a person’s mood. Specifically, it can tell how happy a person is at a given moment in time. When the computers take over and strive to make life perfect for humankind, by their robotic standards, it’s software like this that will make their jobs a piece of cake. I suppose such technology could also be useful in test marketing new products, but that’s just boring, now isn’t it?

Mustek Intros Digital Photo Frame for Traveling Salesmen

I’ve held positions where I’ve traveled extensively, and there are two things I can say. First, hotel room alarm clocks almost never function correctly. Second, I always miss my family. Mustek, bless their hearts, has release a portable digital picture frame/alarm clock combo that solves both problems. With a 1.5 inch, 128X128 CSTN LCD color screen, the TRAVELFOTO can hold 70 pictures without a sweat. That’s enough for a couple day’s travel, to keep a person aware of what his or her family looks like so there’s no embarrassing pauses when returning home. Definitely worth the $40 or so when it comes out in about a month.

Share  submit to reddit

More and more filmmakers and photographers are being swept up by the digital camera wave while others stay true to film. Regardless of an artist’s preference Sekonic seems to be able to dedicate equal time to both the digital and film mediums with the L-758DR Digitalmaster light meter.

 Sekonic L 758DR Digitalmaster

Its Sekonic’s smartest light meter yet, with an alert that tells you when you are taking incorrect light measurements, and the capability to wirelessly connect to your PDA and access software such as pCAM and pCINE.

Whether a subject is photographed digitally or on film, its becoming nearly impossible to get lighting measurements wrong.

A few specs

  • Exposure Profiling — Programmable to respond to light exactly like your digital camera or type of film
  • Four Meters In One — Independent programming of Flash, Ambient, Incident and Reflected measuring modes customized to your digital camera or type of film
  • Pre-Exposure Warning — Displays and alerts when a measured value exceeds your digital camera’s (or type of film) dynamic range
  • Super Sensitive Flash Metering — Measures light beyond the limits of any camera (reflected flash measurements as low as f-2.0 (ISO 100)
  • 1° Spot with Digital Display — Rectangular 1° spot viewfinder with vivid display

The Megapixel Calculator

Have you ever wondered just how many pictures one could take with a digital camera? And not just an estimate, but more or less the exact number of shots you will have left? Taking a page from the film cameras of old, the megapixel calculator has been born.

Results are displayed after entering an input number and the number of megapixels in your digital camera. If you happen to be too lazy, or want a complete list, that is available as well. The results will show the number of shots available in different size ratios or file formats (.jpg, .mov), as well as different sizes of memory cards. Pretty useful, I’d say.
