NVIDIA Releases Quadro FX 5800 Graphics Card – Says It Is Best in Industry

NVIDIA has released their long rumored Quadro FX 5800 graphics card for consumers. This monstrosity was previously seen in NVIDIA’S Quadro Plex D data cruncher. It replaces the 5600 at the top of the NVIDIA food chain. The FX 5800 contains 240 CUDA-programmable cores and sets a new standard with 4GB of graphics memory. The only drawback? The suggested retail price is $3,499. Good graphics do not come cheap.

ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series Wins

It seems that everyone loves the Nvidia GeForce 8800GT and it is touted as the the best performing midrange graphics card on the market. HotHardware loves the Radeon HD 3870 and states the the HD 3850 is "quite strong" when compared against mid-range cards like the Radeon 2600 XT and GeoForce 8600 GTS. Then Custom PC says that the 3850 "blows both of these cards away." Lots of good stuff here. Happy shopping.

Writing on the Keyboard

The A1Pro selling for only $25.48 is a hybrid keyboard of sorts which incorporates a writing pad. Unfortunately, it sits in the very spot the rest of us find our 10-key pad, which is not such a good idea.

Regardless, the idea of have a writing tablet or perhaps a small graphics tablet designed right into a keyboard is a great idea! I would buy that product.

Would you belive (a la Maxwell Smart) that Wacom is celebrating its 25th anniversary? And it is offering up three special pen tablets in 6- x 8-, 6- x 11-, and 9- x 12-inch sizes. Prices will be $369, $409 and $489 from respectively.

Augmentix XTG630 Has Your Back

Take a Dell Latitude, slap on some military-grade protective materials, waterproof it, and design it for temperature extremes from -4F to 140F, and what do you have? The Augmentix XTG630, one tough notebook. The specs aren’t too shabby, either:

14.1 inch LCD
Core 2 Duo processor
Up to 4GB RAM
Removable 80GB HDD plus 32GB SSD
Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics
Bluetooth 2.0
802.11 a/g/n (draft)
EVDO or HSDPA
All the ports any rugged type would need

It can function in 4-inches of rain an hour and 95% humidity, and take a fall from up to 3 feet. Makes me feel like a weak, frail being, because I certainly couldn’t handle some of that abuse.

XtremeNotebooks Xtreme 917X – Doin’ the Quad-Core

I just love power, especially when packaged in mobile forms.That goes for cars, motorcycles, and, of course, notebooks. The XtremeNotebook Xtreme 917V (wihch is a bit to type) provides some serious power for a low, low starting price of $2,399. The specs:

dual nVidia Geforce Go 7950 GTX graphics processors
Up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM
Multicard reader
Dual-layer DVD writer (no HD?)
Up to three 250GB hard drives (four spindles? wow!)

Fujitsu Does Have a Way with Tablets – T2010 is Nifty

As usual, Fujitsu has cooked up some delicious Tablet PC goodness in the upcoming T2010. Check out the specs:

Intel GMA X1300 graphics (so, not a gaming machine, obviously)

No, for those who are into tablets, those are some nice specs. Just the right size, performance would be fine for a Tablet (which to should never be expected to be a decent gaming machine), and a screen that’s high enough resolution without being blinding. Pricing will start at $1,599, and I’m sure go up from there with the appropriate options.

Sony’s VAIO TP1 Full of Goodness but Looks Like Ottoman

That might not seem fair, but I swear: I was in a furniture store the other day and saw an ottoman that looked just like Sony’s new VAIO TP1 HTPC. Which might be on purpose, because this thing certainly won’t fit in any A/V rack that I know of. It’s also not the most well-equipped HTPC on the market, with neither an HD optical drive nor CableCARD capability. It does have a Core 2 Duo running at 1.83GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel 950 integrated graphics (yuck!), 300GB SATA HDD, standard dual-layer DVD, and a TV tuner. So, nothing to write home about, but maybe it’s made of soft leather and will let you take a load off. Pricing is $1,599.99 and up.

Everex Helps Parents Cheap Out on Back-to-Schoolers

Or, maybe Everex is really helping the middle class afford to send their kids to college with some kind of computer at all. Either way, for $300 there’s the GC3502, with a 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, and integrated LAN and graphics. Not too shabby, and should help keep those kids studying, because they certainly won’t be playing games on this thing.

Sony VAIO RM1N Single-Handedly Causes Gallons of Drool

Imagine if you will a terabyte of fast storage, 2GB of DDR RAM, a Core 2 Quad processor, Blu-Ray, multiple-case design for convenience and, presumably, cooling efficiencies, decent graphics with a GeForce 8600 GTS, and a luscious overall design. Throw in a video-nerdy jog dial control, all sorts of video and audio inputs, and HD support, and you have the video editor’s dream machine–at least, for the relatively affordable price of $5,000.

It’s an upgrade from earlier RM models, but man–what an upgrade. I’ll take two (in my dreams, of course).
