Just when you thought the latest desktop computers couldn’t get any faster, think again.  A genius of a professor from the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering has developed something that could be the new wave of desktop computers.  Uzi Vishkin came up with a prototype which uses a method called parallel processing of a single chip.

The single-chip supercomputer prototype built by Prof. Uzi Vishkin’s group uses rich algorithmic theory to address the practical problem of building an easy-to-program multicore computer…Vishkin’s chip unites the theory of yesterday with the reality of today

By the way, he’s also letting the public come up with a name. My suggestion? I have none.

Pac Man the Original video game is making a comeback!

pacman game1 Pac Man. The Return

According to my super top secret sources, Pac Man will be reborn on Microsoft’s Xbox Live online service as a final tribute for designer Toru Iwatani, who is retiring. The new game, Pac Man Championship Edition, is the second and final version Mr Iwatani personally designed, and was created for the final round of the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship in New York and features dance music and mazes that change shapes, the pinnacle of interactive entertainment.

Now, I have never personally played this version of Pac Man and I’ll tell you what, I NEVER will. Nothing will even come close to the genius of the original Pac Man. The 4 pixels, the crude and electronic soundtrack that looped and looped endlessly, the distinctive "whaka whaka, whaka" sound of Pac Man. I mean if you want a great game this is it. Trying to make Pac Man better than the original is like freshman art students  trying to repaint the Sistine Chapel with rollers and 3 colors. Bottom line, the original will never be replicated and if you want a come back, dust off your old Nintendo, clean off the cartage, get a nice frosty one and eat cherries like there’s no tomorrow.

We can’t say that Genius’ latest laser mouse is apt to cause any cancellation emails to start flying over those recently ordered Obsidians, but the Traveler 515 Laser does a fair job in the specs department to make up for its vanilla looks. Similar to Saitek’s critter, this pointing device boasts a touch-sensitive OptoWheel scroll area, right and left click buttons, Flip 3D and Smart IE hotkeys for Vista users, Turbo Scroll for blowing past those incredibly long patent filings, an adjustable 800 / 1,600 DPI laser, and compatibility with OS X and most Windows flavors. Additionally, this device is said to play nice with both righties and southpaws alike, and while looks may not be everything, we imagine that this one will end up priced a tad lower than its dashing competitor in order to compensate in the attractivity arena.
