What’s the Deal With USBs?

Ok, what’s the deal with all the USB accesories? I don’t get it. Everywhere I turn some designer comes up with an "uber" cleaver design or concept for a USB, what’s up with that? Who cares? Yeah, maybe that weird group of geeks in high school care enough to buy a (insert favorite thing here) USB gadget, but for corporate America? I just don’t see the appeal? Why spend money on a device that is going to be out dated in a couple of months anyway, when Apple comes out with some ultra cool and sexy alternative to USB’s?

Someone leave a comment and fill me in, please.

Wow, that was brief news. I’m sorry to announce that "Darth Vader Rises" post, which was posted here on NerdGrind.com has been erased. Was it rouge hackers working for the Jedi’s? Or did Lucas finally catch on that I love Star Wars.

In any case for those lucky and quick enough to catch that geeky news – Cheers. For the others who desperately want Darth Vader News, get a pair of these National Geographic’s iGEN NV20/20 Night Scope and look into the dark. Then, maybe….just maybe you’ll spot the ever elusive blog post.

But seriously folks this night vision thingamajig is pretty sweet, costs about $520 and debuts in April 2008.

This young man, Michal Tatarkiewicz is brilliant. Now, I know this really isn’t gadget related but it’s still Nerd worthy. This guy is drawing a subway in full scale in a gallery for an art/design showing. You aren’t likely to get any more obsessively geeky.

A relatively inexpensive accessory for the Wiiheads is this box (which comes in black or white) and is used to store your nunchuck combos. The fun part is the spring action to get at your Wiimote faster. For $19 everyone can be a geek and get one.

Ok, this is the last Transformers reference I will make. This week at least! Anyways, I was surfing the net for some cool geek stuff and I came across this phone. By day it is a regular phone, by night it transformers into a gun wielding, mean transformer – or should I say Decepticon?

A couple of people from IFixIt bought two 8GB iPhones for the strict purpose of taking them apart. They have every step documented on their page along with pictures, so if you want to follow along and rip into your new phone, literally, go by their instruction.

While viewing this page, the geek in me said "Awesome!" while the logical and thrifty part of me says "My GOD, man! What are you doing?" I guess I’m just no fun.

Well, this had me laughing….meet the SolidAlliance 3-port USB Engine Hub. Not only is it a 2.0.3 3-port hub, but it come with "engine noises." (Do I really need that? No.)
