Alienware Releases Budget Gaming Desktop – Area-51 750i

Alienware has released a budget-priced gaming desktop. The Area-51 750i is based on the NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI motherboard and can be equipped with a Core 2 Extreme QX9650. The unit can feature either twin ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 or twin GeForce GTX 280 graphics cards, depending on your preference. It also has 8GB of DDR2 RAM, Windows Vista 64-bit, an optional Blu-ray burner and an array of ports. The baseline price for the rig is $1,049 which is pretty good considering Alienware PCs used to clock in at nearly four grand.

Alienware Makes Surprise Announcement of the CrossFire X-enabled M17 Gaming Notebook

Alienware announced today their upcoming CrossFire X-enabled M17 gaming notebook. The company had been hinting at a surprise announcement for some time, and this is it. The notebook sports a 17-inch display, a Core 2 Quad / Extreme CPU, and up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM. It also features twin ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs, a WXGA+ / WUXGA panel, an optional HDTV tuner, up to 640GB of HDD space in a RAID 0 array, a dual-layer DVD writer / Blu-ray reader, WiFi, Blutooth 2.1, gigabit Ethernet and a facial recognition sensor. The unit weighs a hefty 9.5 pounds and the 12-cell battery won’t keep it charged for too long. The M17 is available soon online and retails starting at $1,399.

These machines made our radar a while back but with all of this election year excitement we plum forget about ’em. Well, here they are. Ready to be scooped up by the adoring public. The laptops are going for approximately $1,249.99. The gaming PC, however, still remains to be priced. Kind of odd considering they are heading to retail shelves as we speak. is ASUS planning an "honor system" with gaming PC? Pay how much you think it’s worth? That actually might be a good gambit. I’d always feel guilty and torn when teachers would ask me to grade my own performance. I always marked myself lower than I probably deserved. Are they counting on that to nab $3,000+ for each PC? More as it develops.

Logitech’s new USB-based ClearChat Comfort and ClearChat Pro headsets aim to make your gaming and Skyping easier and more comfortable.

The ClearChat Pro features "laser-tuned" audio drivers, the SoundSwitch auto-optimizing EQ, a flexible boom, audio controls located right on the earpiece, and a mute indicator. The ClearChat Comfort offers adjustable, ultra-padded ear pads and in-line volume and mute controls.

Coming in September, the Pro will sell for $49.99, and the Comfort will be $39.99.

Teen Receives Â£44,000 For PS2

Remember the original PS2? The gaming console that has been superceded by the slim version, as well as the PS3 (well, sort of) and now costs about $50 if you look hard enough? Well, someone found a PS2 that was well worth the cost.

In Aylsham, Norfolk, a male teenager was sent a PS2 that was won on eBay for Â£95. Instead of coming with the two games he thought were included, the console was instead loaded with Â£44,000. In American dollars, this is about $90,378, so it is no small hunk of change.

The teen and his family turned the money over to the police, who will be investigating the situation until late September. After this time, the money will be donated to the UK’s "Proceeds of Crime Act."

An incredible story made even more incredible by the fact that the family didn’t keep the money! Yeah, there’s always the chance that the family would have been arrested for possibly assailing a criminal, but I would like to think that the family only considered this after a trip to the Bahamas. Am I alone on this?

Xbox Halo 3 Special Edition Console

Microsoft has announced its new Halo 3 themed Xbox 360 console. It doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary from the original Xbox 360, except express the excitement, dedication, and affection that one feels when oneâ€™s thoughts are consumed by oneâ€™s favorite video game. The console comes with 20 gigs of memory, play & charge kit, and matching green and yellow Halo 3 Special Edition headset and wireless controller. Game not included. The console will begin shipping in September and is priced at $350-560. Happy gaming!

Video Gaming Interferes with School

A new US study states that boys and girls who play video games on school days do less homework and reading than those who do not play the games. (Did we really need a study to tell us that?)

Boys average 30% and girls spend 34% less time studying.

Another chintzy plastic Wiimote accessory, this pool cue add-on doesn’t seem to have gamers jumping for joy. For $13 (from Hong Kong) it might make a nice birthday present for a 5-year old though.
