Amazon Takes Stand to Eliminate Wasteful and Hard-to-Open Gadget Packaging

Amazon has used their considerable marketing clout to question the necessity of the hard plastic containers that hold our favorite gadgets hostage. You know the kind. The "Spend four hours sawing at it with a steak knife" kind.

Beginning today, consumers can purchase from Amazon’s "Frustration-Free Packaging" section. Products sold in this section utilize streamlined packaging that often includes recyclable cardboard. 19 products are currently available in the new containers with many more to come in the near future. Amazon’s CEO purportedly has a vision of one day offering their entire catalog sans frustration.

Bruce Wane’s Fanny Pack

Everyone has heard of a fanny pack right? It’s those funny alternatives to a purse or backpack, usually you’ll see them on old fat guys or nerds at a ballpark. I even used to own one, and let me tell you, it’s a big hit with the ladies. But i figured it’s time for an upgrade. It’s called the Gambit Pack and its the ultimate storage place for gadgets.

It’s actually rumored that Bruce Wane himself came up with the design. but don’t take my word for it, find out for yourself.

The Grabit Pack is available directly from the company’s website for just $23. Unfortunately at the moment the right side version is sold out, which is actually good news for south paws.

Warner Bros goes Exclusive

I just got a press release from Time Warner letting us all know that Warner Bros has chosen to go exclusive with the blu-ray format starting on the 1st of June. I guess this move will make the HD DVD team go bananas especially since Warner declares that the format war is over and that the blu-ray team has won. Read more here

Tesla is Most Excellent

Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing Mario Bros theme song at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software.

There are a million gadgets like this in every magazine (SkyMall especially), but what makes this particular growing gadget impressive is not only the design, but how environmentally friendly it is. Totally solar powered and totally cool.
