It’s tough for a cellphone to be small enough to fit in your pocket and also big enough to pack a pretty display capable of doing everything you need done. Samsung is attempting to bridge this gap with a cellphone that features a foldable OLED display.

The company showed off the concept phone at the FPD International show in Yokohama. It opens like a book and reveals the flexible OLED, which clocks in at 2.5-inches. The company has offered no word as to when or if they’d put the phone into production. It seems like a great idea, though. Below is a video of the presentation:

It’s basically paper-based battery technology, using carbon nanotubes and an electrolyte embedded in the paper. It’s scalable, and could conceivably be bent into any shape. Connected to solar cells, it could provide on-the-go power to just about anything. With flexible screens and nano devices of all sorts, one day we’ll just roll our computers up and stick ‘em in our back pockets. All thanks to researchers like those at Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute.
