A .NET desktop application called Facebook Notifications 2 can make it much easier to check for pokes, messages, events, friend requests, notices, and more, without logging into Facebook.com every time.

Once installed the program will place a small icon in your tray from which you can find out all that is happening in your Facebook account.

Social Network Workout Plan

Patrick Moberg came up with a workout plan to help himself stay healthy while he indulges himself at some very popular social networking sites like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Google reader, Flickr, and Digg. Here’s his plan:

THE PROBLEM
I’ve recently found myself checking the following websites an unhealthy amount.
THE IDEA
Every time you open a new tab to check out one of the following websites, stop. Get up from your computer and do the exercise associated with the site you were going to visit. After you complete the exercise, reward yourself by going to the website.
IN ESSENCE
Burn some fat, not yo’ brain.

Add a treadmill, or a few walks around the block, to this plan and you’ll be a lot healthier. Here’s a challenge, only visit one of these sites if you can complete the exercise for each one before visiting the site again. Don’t forget to eat your protein to build muscle not lose it.

HOW TO: Stalk Your Kids on Facebook and Twitter VIDEO

The Onion made a video all about overprotective parents who want to keep an eye on their kids by stalking them on Facebook and Twitter. Keep in mind the video is meant to be comedy, and yet it rings so true.

My favorite lines from the E-mom were:

“With the Facebook feature called tagging I can find out she is Jenny Longman just by scrolling over her … I can get a good enough idea of what she’s like just by looking at this trampy picture.”

And with Twitter, E-mom advises parents to pick a Twitter name with their kid’s college year and:

“just make sure that you spell everything wrong and swear alot.”

I’m starting to wonder how many parents are really posing as "friends" or "followers."

Twitter Rejects Takeover Offer From Facebook

Social networking site, twitter.com rejected a $500 million takeover offer from another social networking giant Facebook.com yesterday. The offer was $100 million in cash and the rest in stock. According to Kara Swisher, Twitter rejected the offer because:

"-Facebook’s real valuation made the amount to only $150 million
-Twitter’s investors wanted cash
-Twitter has a secret plan to be announced next year for revenue"

The real question is: What does twitter have in store? Sure, Facebook may have inflated their numbers a little, but hey, times are tough and $500 million is still half a billion!

Facebook Announces Birthday Alert Service – Renders Similar Third-Party Services Obsolete

Facebook added another useful feature for users, the ability to receive a weekly email alerting to upcoming birthdays of friends and loved ones. This is good news for those of us who habitually forget birthdays. This is bad news for the score of Facebook apps that do the same thing. Birthday Alert alone has over 180,000 active monthly users. With one brush of the digital pen, Facebook has rendered them obsolete.

Facebook Provides New Source Of Entertainment

Any users that are familiar with the Facebook social-network system would have noticed many changes in its layout and settings. Many fun things were created as a way for members to pass the time at home (or often enough, at work), including new games, including Tetrish, the spinoff of Tetris. Red Bull and Facebook teamed up to bring you "Roshambull," which has a seemingly "rock-paper-scissors" type of style. Facebook members can challenge each otherÂ and rake up a high-score. While it’s no strip poker, it’s still a cool idea.

The Internet is awesome, it is an ever evolving piece of technology. Here’s some of the latest. Its called wis.dm. "Founded by Martin Clifford, wis.dm aims to bring more depth and intelligence to online social networking. Unlike the most popular networking sites, which are more about narcissism (why else would you post 29 pictures of yourself?) and passive voyeurism (guess who your ex is dating now?!) the best way to enjoy wis.dm is to dive in and start asking and answering questions. And unlike Facebook and its ilk, wis.dm is fun to use even if you don’t know anyone else on it."

The only catch is that you have to ask a yes or no question. So I tried it and i asked how many people thought that Barry Bonds would break the home runÂ record? 94% said yes. Pretty cool and fast too! Try it out.
