Artificial Corneas

Europe’s CORNEA project has developed an artificial cornea at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Regensburg have created a device that is "based on a commercially available polymer which absorbs no water and allows no cells to grow on it."
When implanted, it will connect "with the natural part of the cornea, while the center remains free of cells and therefore clear."
Testing on rabbits has been successful so far.

Hi-Def Laptops

Europe’s Rock is the first company to offer HD DVD as standard on all of its laptops.
The 15.4in Pegasus 670 features the HD DVD reading / DVD writing drive along, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, NVIDIA’s 512MB GeForce 8600M GT graphics card, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, and Windows Vista. The higher-end Xtreme 770 is available with most of the same specs, save for the 512MB GeForce 8700M GT, 17-inch WSXGA+ display and a number of additional ports.
And all of it for under £999 – $2,037, but if the US dollar keeps falling, that price is going way up.

New 360 Drive

Just a rumor and there is nothing to really substantiate yet, but it is being reported that Mark Bennett (Microsoft’s European HD DVD business director), announced that Microsoft would be shipping a new and improved 360 HD DVD drive in 2008 which would support HD DVD’s HDi interactive features.

Sony PlayTV

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced its PlayTV, a combined TV tuner and Personal Video Recorder for PS3. PlayTV will be available in UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain early in 2008, with other PAL territories to follow.
Equipped with two 1080p tuners (for Europe only now), a program guide, it will allow you to store recorded broadcasts on your PS3 drive, and also transcode and transfer the saved files to your PSP.
No word as to when this might be available on this side of the Big Pond.
