Electronics manufacturers are finally banding together to eliminate that annoying clamshell packaging we all know and loathe. Amazon, Sony, Microsoft and Best Buy have now all jumped aboard a bandwagon to eliminate the clamshell for good.

According to several sources, 6,000 Americans per year make hospital visits because of injuries sustained by opening those clamshells. So, it’s good news that Sony is implementing a package, for use at Best Buy and Walmart, that is easily opened but emits a loud noise to deter in-store thieves. Mike Fasulo, chief marketing officer for Sony, says by way of an apology "None of us intentionally tried to make this a hassle for consumers." Burn, clamshell, burn.
