Google is simplifying the design of their homepage even further to just a search box and the logo. The rest of the items on the homepage will fade in as needed.

At the moment we know Google is only bucket testing this design, and other related variations. The bucket test is only seen by some readers, and may never get released to the general public, especially since they’re regular homepage look is patented.

Matt Cutts, the search guru, explains in this video a secret Google Reader Easter egg that activates Ninja Mode using Konami code.

As you’ll see when you press the arrow keys up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, then type b, a, Ninja mode reveals Ninjas, each subscription shows 30 unread messages, and pressing the like or unlike link on pictures explodes with animated hearts.
